Gizmo™ FKEY (function key) is shipped with Gizmo DA (in the Stuffit file) and included on the update disk sent to all registered users. The FKEY is invoked with Command-Shift-#, where # is the FKEY number [which is shipped as seven (7)]. Depending on how the FKEY is installed, it may end up with a different number. This FKEY allows you to control Gizmo™ without having it be active (the front-most window). NOTE: The FKEY can only be used with Gizmo DA, not the application version.
There are several methods to install the FKEY:
1) Use Suitcase™, MasterJuggler™, or similar to open the Gizmo FKEY file.
2) Use FKEY Manager or similar to install the Gizmo FKEY file.
3) Use ResEdit to copy the FKEY resource from the Gizmo FKEY file into your System file (this can be dangerous!).
When you invoke the FKEY, one of the following will occur:
• If Gizmo is not currently open, it will be opened.
• If Gizmo is converting a picture, the process will be stopped and the picture cleared. This is just like selecting the Abort Conversion menu item.
• If Gizmo is not converting a picture, it will search for a new GIF picture to automatically open, no matter what the Auto-Open search time setting is in the Presets dialog. Opening the picture with this method ignores all the restrictions of the auto-open feature (picture size, bad picture, etc.). So it is possible to open a picture that is being uploaded or attempt to open a bad GIF picture again.
• Hitting Command-Space-Shift-# will toggle between the picture view or the status display. This is the same as hitting the space-bar when Gizmo is active.
Since some communications applications can be sensitive to open files when they abort a download, the picture Gizmo is converting should be closed before you abort the download. This FKEY makes it a snap!
